A database at the heart of dph

dph is based on tools and methods for developing resources sites (data-bank free-ware, search engine, indexing). There are experimental methods for collecting and exchanging experience and analysing knowledge and innovative, transformational or that proposes new approaches in practice.

Structured information for relevant answers

The database includes sheets based on fieldwork and that teach experiential lessons. It also includes notes on works read, testimonies and analysis of questions of more general interest. To date this includes 8,000 sheets that are indexed on the basis of a list of key words. This thesaurus will be organised as an atlas of relationships that will allow people to navigate from one concept to another, while showing the complexity and the links between the different questions.

By entering a word or an expression into the caption “search” which is the search engine of our database, it is possible to gain access to the files. This search engine only looks for key words indexed on each sheet, and included in the title and sub-titles. Search results appear weighted by the search motor in order to allow the most relevant sheets to be given priority.
Once a sheet has been called up, it is possible to navigate using thematic key words or geography in order to gain access to information on the authors and the directory of organisations who have contributed experience sheets.

Files to analyse in greater depth

Today’s priority is transversal analysis (multi-actor, multi-theme, geographically and culturally diverse). These sheets feed into files. dph also has a portal function, and presents an overall possibility of sites that are resource partners.

Authors are actors in social change

The dph database is composed of sheets written by authors of many and varied profiles: activists writing about their struggles, students showcasing their academic work, engineers reflecting on the world of industry or on technical evolution, research scientists, social workers, civil servants, young entrepreneurs, citizens who have mobilised around neighbourhood issues… there are about a thousand people, spread over about 40 different countries. Many are part of associative structures, both public and private and present in the directory.

Thematic cross-references

There are many different themes, organised according to an analysis grid or quadrants map with four poles. (Systems of values, culture and knowledge; economy and society; governance and democracy and human relations and biosphere). These are the pre-figuration of the atlas of relationships of concepts.

This list of themes concerns the file access. The sheets are accessible via the search engine or key words.
